Nature is a violent thing, but there is beauty in such interspecies relations. Predators with their sharp claws, mouths to tear flesh from bones and preys with their soft eyes, that reflect the danger around them. Yet it isn’t a negative thing, this sequence of organisms is what keeps all beings alive. While it can look harsh at first, it is what connects us all together. The owl doesn’t feel bad for its nature, the same way that the mouse doesn’t dwell on its near death.
-
Like this bird, we do cruel things as a simple result from our nature or for survival. It’s normal to be an animal and to make choices for our own self preservation. The situations we are put in often allows for more nuance than we first thought, it is also sometimes hard to make choices that can be morally ambiguous.

This piece, inspired by the work Aux petits oiseaux of artist Percy Savard from rimouski, speaks of the feeling of belonging in a place. à la maison talks about the st-laurent river that is a place both actually and metaphorically a home. It is somewhere I personally feel safe, where the water crashes upon the shoreline and the birds fly low. The soft colors and light atmosphere is meant to share a feeling of comfort. The two seagulls that center the painting are creatures often overlooked but important to coast ecosystems.

a dreamscape that doesn't have to be hurt and gore, sometimes it is all you can wish for. Although not always possible to escape, the idea of softness in the dream world can heal wounds. With the help of others, it can get you to fly higher.
